Canada reopens borders step by step

Canada will start admitting fully vaccinated American travelers starting August 9. The relaxation of border measures is extended to other nationalities almost a month later. As of September 7, residents of other countries who have been fully vaccinated will be admitted.

U.S. citizens and permanent residents can travel to Canada starting August 9 if they are fully vaccinated.

This is provided that the current upward trend in vaccinations in Canada continues and the domestic corona situation does not worsen.

All travelers must upload proof of vaccination to the ArriveCAN app or website before boarding their flight to Canada. They should also carry their vaccination certificate to show to border officials.

The Canada-U.S. border was mutually closed to non-essential travel on March 21, 2020, and the restrictions have been renewed every month since, Canadian media report.

Canada previously let it be known that it will allow large cruise ships back in starting in November if the corona situation has improved by then. The condition for that relaxation is that the vessels meet safety and hygiene requirements.

The U.S. has not yet announced similar plans to lift restrictions on Canadians seeking to enter the country for non-essential travel. (Photo Shutterstock).
