Record year for Thalys

After a record year on all its routes, Thalys is about to surpass the 7.5 million passenger mark, since January. Moreover, new connections and a brand new design are also planned for the red high-speed trains in 2019

By the end of the year, Thalys expects traffic on its entire network to increase by more than 5%, compared to the beginning of 2018. The Dutch route proved to be an important driver of European trade this year with an increase in traffic of + 6%. The other Thalys routes Brussels-Paris and the German route also performed well.

“Our ambitious approach to boosting European mobility is bearing fruit and the many projects we are preparing for next year will further strengthen this movement,” explained Agnès Ogier, CEO of Thalys. “It is at the heart of our mission to allow a growing number of Europeans and international travelers to move easily within this region.”

With this mission in mind, 2019 will see a number of important steps. Among other things, new connections Amsterdam/ Schiphol/ Rotterdam/ Antwerp/ Brussels/ Roissy-Charles de Gaulle/ Marne-la-vallée for which sales start on Tuesday, December 18 and for which the first rides take place on March 31. There will also be an 8% increase in capacity on the Dutch route. Autumn 2019 will see the launch of the first trains with a new design
