South Africa eases corona restrictions

Because of the declining number of infections, South Africa wants to relax corona restrictions. According to President Cyril Ramaphosa, the restrictions go to the lowest level.

Although the virus continues to rage, the worst is over, the president stated. ‘We are ready to open our doors to the world again.’ To this end, airspace will be reopened to international flights from October 1, after nearly six months of closure.
This is reported by German media based on reports by news agency dpa.

However, the relaxation is still subject to restrictions, such as freedom of assembly or for air travelers. Negative coronal tests immediately before departure are part of this. The curfew will be shortened to the time between midnight and four in the morning.

To date, more than 651,500 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in South Africa. About 15,600 people died as a result. According to official information, nearly 89 percent of those infected have recovered. Two months ago there were 12,000 new infections per day; currently there are still 2,000 per day. The testing program continues to expand, Ramaphosa says. There will also be a free corona app.

The government imposed a nationwide curfew in late March to prevent the spread of the virus. The restrictions are having a devastating effect on the economy.
