Star Alliance opens ‘lounge with local experience’ at Schiphol Airport

Star Alliance opened its new lounge at Schiphol on Thursday. The lounge is located in the Schengen section of the airport, after the security checkpoint, on the third floor of Terminal 1 near the Panorama Terrace. From the lounge, travelers have easy access to the gates for flights to European destinations in the Schengen area of Star Alliance member airlines.

All proprietary Star Alliance Lounges are designed to always offer a unique, local experience. In collaboration with Amsterdam-based architecture firm D-Dock, elements of the signature Amsterdam atmosphere were incorporated into the new lounge. The design is inspired by the ever-changing Dutch skies and landscapes. The interior features furniture and decorations after original Dutch designs.

Free Wi-Fi is available in the lounge, including standard USB and other connections to charge electronic devices. The lounge also features a luggage area, individual work corners, a shared reading/working table, dining area, bar, relaxation corner and a wine bar. In the afternoon there is a bar with service, a beer tap, free buffet with hot and cold dishes, flight information, business services for printing or scanning, newspapers and magazines to read and on request personal care products.
The lounge seats 150 passengers and is open daily from 05:30 in the morning until 21:30 in the evening, depending on the Star Alliance (Schengen) flight schedule.

Travel Experience
‘Star Alliance has set itself the ‘overall’ goal of improving our customers’ travel experience. Providing a high-quality lounge is part of this strategy. ‘The opening of the new Amsterdam Lounge expands the network of owned, Star Alliance lounges to eight and offers our customers departing from ‘de Dam’ a great lounge experience,’ said Christian Draeger, Vice President Customer Experience of Star Alliance.

The lounge is open to First and Business Class passengers, Star Alliance GoldCard holders and designated members of the Air Canada Maple Leaf Worldwide Club and United Club members. These are passengers on flights operated by Adria Airways, Aegean Airlines, Austrian Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, SAS, Swiss and TAP Air Portugal. Departing travelers on flights of other Star Alliance member airlines are also welcome, but they should be aware that the lounge is located in the Schengen section of the airport, before passport control. A total of 16 Star Alliance member carriers fly to Amsterdam, offering nonstop service to 23 destinations in 18 countries.
