Switzerland: participants willing to pay more for group travel

The recovery of tourism in Switzerland is clearly visible in the interest in group travel. Lisette van Dolderen, responsible for groups and incentives at Switzerland Tourism, again receives daily requests for quotes. ‘That includes groups of 200 people.’

The good news is that group travel participants are also reluctant to go deeper into their pockets. With many far-flung destinations still locked in, the budget is available for near-future destinations. And Switzerland, among others, is reaping the benefits.

Switzerland Tourism held its first live event for the travel industry in a year and a half last week. The venue was Strand Zuid near the RAI in Amsterdam. Group and incentive travel providers from Switzerland met with 30 colleagues from the Netherlands. Sustainable tourism was the focus, or in Swiss: Swisstainable Switzerland.

TV chef Pierre Wind, as key-note speaker, presented the sustainable culinary offerings in Switzerland in his own enthusiastic way. According to him, the Alpine country is a world champion in sustainability when it comes to food and drink.
Many Swiss restaurants serve the “zero kilometer menu,” using only local ingredients.
