Socio-economic development
The Uganda Convention Bureau’s recent participation at IBTM World 2023 in Barcelona reflects the nation’s commitment to promoting its MICE sector. Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) CEO, Ms. Lilly Ajarova, emphasizes the importance of such international exhibitions in positioning Uganda as a prime business tourism destination. The new convention center is expected to significantly contribute to the socio-economic development of Uganda, opening doors for international and regional meetings, and diversifying the country’s tourism offerings.
High-profile events
Looking ahead, Uganda is set to host several high-profile events, including The Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE) in May 2024, a key tourism event in East Africa attracting a global audience. Other notable conferences lined up for the next year include the Africa Migration Conference, Africa Society for Blood Transfusion, Commonwealth Speakers Summit, and various other international summits.
The inauguration of the Speke Resort Convention Centre marks a significant milestone for Uganda, not only in terms of enhancing its MICE offerings but also in showcasing its diverse attractions ranging from wildlife and culture to gastronomy. This development aligns with the government’s vision to make Uganda a preferred MICE destination, supported by ongoing enhancements in transportation infrastructure, including new international airports.
