Delta innovates eco-friendly

Starting this month, Delta Air Lines will begin to deploy handcrafted amenity kits, recycled bedding, reusable and biodegradable tableware and premium canned wine. This saves a weight of plastic equivalent to 1500 passenger cars per year. At the same time, Delta supports businesses run by minorities or women.

Delta One® Amenity Kits from Someone Somewhere, with care products from Grown Alchemist

Delta enlisted Mexican clothing brand Something Somewhere to create the amenity kits for passengers in Delta’s premium Delta One cabin. Someone Somewhere is a certified company that combines traditional Mexican handicrafts with innovative products. Delta’s partnership with the brand has created jobs for more than 250 people in five of Mexico’s most vulnerable states.

The new amenity kit eliminates five single-use plastic items such as zippers and packaging, reducing plastic use by more than 40 tons on an annual basis. Someone Somewhere’s artisanal production processes also eliminate waste and use recycled cotton.

Launching onboard in early February, the new kits will feature sustainable wellness-focused products, including a Someone Somewhere eye mask, natural lip balm and hand lotion from Grown Alchemist and a Humble Co. bamboo toothbrush. Both onboard Grown Alchemist products will transition to aluminum packaging in April 2022.
