KLM back to Africa

The worldwide destination network is central to KLM’s strategy to emerge stronger and more competitive from the corona crisis. With 11 destinations, the Africa network is at the same strength as in 2019. In the winter of 2021, Mombasa (Kenya) will be added as a new destination.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, KLM has maintained its network, including that in Africa, as much as possible. This allowed customers to make (necessary) trips and the transport of freight, such as medical supplies, could continue. If further relaxations come into view, this strategy will make it easier for KLM to scale up the frequency and occupancy.

Travel restrictions to many countries in Africa are still significant, allowing only essential travel. Travelers are advised to properly inform themselves about the applicable rules via Wijsopreis.nl and klm.traveldoc.aero.

Main changes compared to 2019:

  • In the summer of 2021, KLM will have 11 destinations in Africa, just like in the summer of 2019.
  • From winter 2021, Mombasa (Kenya) will be offered as a new destination.
  • Before the COVID-19 pandemic, it was decided to remove Luanda (Angola) and Windhoek (Namibia) from the destination schedule due to reduced customer demand; conversely, Zanzibar (Tanzania) and Cairo (Egypt) were added in 2020.
