Kimpton opens hotel in Amsterdam

American hotel chain Kimpton is opening its first branch outside the United States in Amsterdam, reports Richard Solomons top executive of InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG). The hotel will be located on the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, replacing the current Crowne Plaza Amsterdam City Centre. Both chains fall under the IHG.

The property in which Kimpton will be located is under YC Amsterdam BV , a company founded by a number of affiliates of York Capital Management and its operating partner. After a renovation of the lobby, restaurants, facilities and rooms, the hotel will open its doors in August 2017.

The capacity of 270 rooms remains unchanged. Currently, Kimpton has 59 hotels in the United States, with a total capacity of 10,700 rooms. 16 more hotels are planned in the future. For example, Kimpton is opening a branch in the Cayman Islands later this year. In addition, the chain runs 74 restaurants and bars.
