Munich-based Ruby Group operates hotels in metropolises such as London, Vienna and Hamburg. And now the German financial heartland is also one of the Ruby destinations. Ruby Louise, which opened its doors on March 15, 2021, has 215 rooms spread over eight floors, a public area with check-in, bar and café areas and a chill-out lounge connected to the bar via a spiral staircase. The highlight of the hotel is the 400 m2 rooftop terrace that is a green oasis for both hotel guests and the locals of Frankfurt.
The hotel is named after Louise von Rothschild, the wife of a banker who lived in Frankfurt in the 19th century. The well-educated and socially engaged citizen donated to the city, among other things, a private hospital and the Clementine Children’s Hospital. The interior harks back to the history of the German Biedermeier era – characterized by being able to retreat within the safety of one’s own four walls, a newfound coziness and an increased desire for walks through gardens and nature. To counteract the coziness, street art and graffiti artfully link to modern Mainhattan.
Louise herself was captured larger-than-life with red headphones and looking out over the lounge on the seventh floor by German street artist Big Birne. Carefully selected original antiques lend charm to the public areas; from the Biedermeier desk and signature leather boots to a genuine Biedermeier hat. Playing with a contrasting mix of shiny copper, white marble and raw concrete, the bar is the centerpiece of the public spaces that stretch over two floors and are connected by a spiral staircase.
