Beijing’s CNCC II Set to Elevate the City’s International MICE Credentials

Beijing is escalating its stature in the international meetings, incentives, conferencing, and exhibitions (MICE) industry. The latest addition to this bustling metropolis is the China National Convention Center Phase II (CNCC II), a landmark project situated in the Olympic Green Area at the heart of the city’s central axis.

Constructed in 2019, CNCC II, the Main Media Center for the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, embodies Beijing’s vision of being a global hub for international exchange. The center’s design and operation are grounded in sustainability and technological innovation, aligning with China’s commitment to eco-friendly practices in the MICE sector. Adhering to LEED V3 platinum and Green Building 3-Star standards, CNCC II integrates green transportation, energy-efficient systems, and intelligent energy management.

Hub project

In a significant development, the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) announced in September 2023 its decision to establish its China representative office in CNCC II. This move, supported by the Beijing government and Beijing North Star, marks a critical step in fostering global networking and skill development in the MICE industry. Alongside this, the 62nd ICCA Congress introduced the first ICCASkills hub project in China at CNCC II, demonstrating a collaborative effort to advance the meetings industry.

Marriott partnership

Adding to the allure, Beijing North Star Group, the developer of CNCC II, has partnered with Marriott International Group to integrate The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Beijing, North, and the Beijing Marriott Marquis Hotel into the convention complex. Slated to open in 2026, these hotels will offer a combined 953 rooms, enhancing the area’s capacity for hosting international events and delegates.

The Ritz-Carlton Beijing, North, and the Beijing Marriott Marquis Hotel are set to provide luxurious accommodations and state-of-the-art facilities, further elevating Beijing’s position as a preferred destination for high-profile MICE events. Upon completion, CNCC II will feature a seamless integration of the convention center, luxury hotels, a shopping mall, and a commercial office building, creating a world-class convention precinct equipped with cutting-edge technology.

CNCC II’s development is a testament to Beijing’s ongoing efforts to reinforce its role as a global exchange hub and a leader in the MICE industry, promising a future of high-energy meetings and events while championing sustainable and high-quality development.
