EU names Utrecht as Europe’s most competitive region

The European Union has once again named Utrecht as Europe’s most competitive region. Over 70 indicators – including macroeconomic stability, infrastructure, health, education, human capital, market size, technological readiness, business sophistication, and innovation – are used to compare regions across Europe. In fact, Utrecht has consistently achieved top marks in the three-yearly Regional Competitiveness Index, or RCI, and more than measures up against regions such as Paris and Stockholm.

The European Union’s fifth Regional Competitiveness Index officially lists Utrecht as the number one most competitive region in Europe. Conducted every three years, RCI holds European capitals and regions up against indicators such as business sophistication, technological readiness, innovation, health, and education, and is based on scientific research.
