Aeromexico focuses on business traveler Schiphol

Aeromexico, Mexico’s largest airline, will fly non-stop three times a week between hub Mexico-City and Schiphol starting in May. The airline is deploying the Dreamliner on the new route. With late departures and early arrivals, the flight company caters primarily to the business traveler. ‘We don’t ignore leisure flyers, but our biggest profit contribution is through the business traveler,’ reports Jorge Goytortua Bores, senior vice president of Global Sales Aeromexico.

Amsterdam becomes the fourth European destination, alongside Paris, Madrid and London. Fifteen of the 20 members of airline alliance SkyTeam, to which Aeromexico belongs, currently already fly to Amsterdam. ‘Mexico and the Netherlands had a good cooperation last year, so this is a fantastic opportunity.’

The airline views coming year positively. ‘We expect this new route to boost air traffic between the Netherlands and Mexico by at least 40 percent,’ said Goytortua Bores. ‘In the first year we estimate a traffic of 60,000 passengers on this route, which is our target.’ In total, the carrier offers more than 1,400 passenger seats per week via the new route, and Amsterdam forms the 87th destination in the route network.

As its main partner, the airline names the Travel Management Companies. ‘Our focus is mainly on the corporate market, but leisure travel is also offered through packages or online,’ reports Goytortua Bores. We are also seeing more and more travellers, who initially come for business, staying longer. That’s when you talk about business and leisure.

Starting May 29, the Boeing 787 will be used on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays between Amsterdam and Mexico City. The new connection offers the possibility of a transfer to more than 85 different destinations in Central, South and North America.
