Dutch nationals are no longer required to have a visa for the Cape Verde Islands as of tomorrow. Travelers from 32 countries, including the Netherlands therefore, can travel visa-free to Cape Verde for a stay of up to 30 days as of January 1, 2019. In recent years, the islands have skyrocketed in popularity among Dutch travelers.
This “finally” fulfills the promise , as it was actually already planned to allow citizens of the 28 EU countries, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein to travel visa-free to Cape Verde as early as January 2018. When that was not met, the next deadline was set for May 2018, but 20 this month the Cape Verdean government announced that visa-free travel for EU citizens will take effect permanently on January 1 next year.

Tourists go to countries that offer the best possible conditions, which is why we are investing in this free movement policy,” the minister said. The latter informed that as of January 1, 2019, there will be a tax on airport security (TSA) of $1.50 for domestic flights and $35 for international flights. Holders of Cape Verde passports, diplomatic passports, residents of Cape Verde and children under the age of two are exempt.
