Nice profession we have! Beautiful profession we have! Creative craft we have! And fantastic profession we have! After all, who gets to be professionally engaged 24/7 in fun things like events, travel, incentives, parties and other wonderful things. Who gets to fly all over the world to check destinations, hotels, restaurants and activities for deliciousness (is that good Dutch?) funness (also bad Dutch for sure) creativity and above all for a high ooohhh and aahhhh content! We may!
Also does well at parties of course. Hey, ….. where are you from again? Or, ….. where are you flying to now? Sounds fun, is fun and is something else than sitting five days a week on your regular chair at the Rabobank in Culemborg or any other bank. Whether that bank is in Culemborg or Alkmaar, ….. remains boring for sure! People who work at a (random) bank usually have very little to say at parties. Or have you ever had a nice one?
Vulnerable
With us it may be all hallelujah and holadiee, but we do live in a fragile environment. So if you work at a bank with fixed (and far too high) rates, interest rates, euribor, the AFM and other laws, you can do little wrong. You just follow the rules and the procedures. And you quickly move on to your next assignment and before you know it, it’s Friday afternoon 5:00 p.m. again. Weekend!
Service
In our profession, we work purely with sensitivities. The terms taste, service, fun (again, incorrect Dutch) nice, beautiful and special are all subjective concepts. What one person finds tasty (Brussels sprouts for example), another may find particularly disgusting. Where one person prefers a city trip along trendy places in a metropolis, another wants to organize a Zen session in a Buddhist temple. In short, ….. tastes differ.
A to Z
And in this, our oh-so-beautiful profession differs from tens of thousands of other jobs in the Netherlands. With us, 1 small sensitivity (or mistake) might cost you the job. With us, we cannot hide behind euribor’s, AFM’s or other rules. With us, everything has to be right from A to Z and we also get to keep 20 or 50 or 200 people happy. And with us, the work week never stops at 5 p.m. on Friday afternoon. In fact, the weekends are usually mutely packed.
However, would we want something else???? If the bank calls me and they want to hire me…… . Don’t think so. Wil (a) not to Culemborg and (b) still have the upper hand at parties very often!
Duly noted!
