De L’Europe opens doors for creative entrepreneurs

The renovated wing of hotel De L’Europe Amsterdam – ‘t Huys – opens its doors to creative entrepreneurs and brands by offering spaces as studios, residences or inspiring work suites. ‘t Huys – which opened earlier this year – offers both hotel guest and Amsterdammer Original Amsterdam Luxury with partners such as MENDO, The Wunderkammer and Le Spa by Skins Institute. The hotel wants to further develop ‘t Huys into a “creative hub,” a plan that gained momentum in recent times.

The concept was conceived by De L’Europe and creative agency D/DOCK and is creatively supported by design studio Nicemakers. Future residents can make the spaces a translation of their brand or creative expertise. This makes ‘t Huys a lively meeting place where entrepreneurs inspire each other and where cross-pollinations occur. This adds value to the guest experience within De L’Europe Amsterdam.

With the renovation, De L’Europe wanted to “open” the hotel to a new target group. The renovated interior invites guests to explore the hotel and walk from one attractively decorated space to another. In recent months, the desire to connect people and parties even more grew. With this concept, De L’Europe Amsterdam offers – for a nominal participation fee – an inspiring place to further develop and strengthen talent, entrepreneurship and craftsmanship. Through the coming together of these residents, their clients and through the cultural activities they organize, ‘t Huys comes to life.

Artist in Residence

Part of ‘t Huys is the “Artist in Residence” program, which offers talented artists free of charge to live and work at the hotel. The first artist to make an appearance – from early September to late November – is the young French painter De Rrusie (1993). De Rrusie is making a name for himself with his large intuitive and poetic paintings inspired by the sky. The exhibition of his work will open at De L’Europe in late 2020. Dax and Joyce Roll of Nicemakers have now moved into ‘t Huys as ‘Designers in Residence’. Later this month, D/Dock team will follow as ‘Creators in Residence’.

Art historian and art dealer Jan Six on De Rrusie – “De Rrusie is spontaneous and extraordinarily driven, his work shows a special and idiosyncratic self-taught visual language. I am pleasantly surprised with the Artist in Residence program that hotel De L’Europe has started in ‘t Huys. Young emerging artists come into contact with many aspects of the artistic world. This concept contributes to this inspiring cross-pollination.”

De L’Europe is currently in talks with several individuals and companies in the luxury segment and creative industries. The hotel thus makes ‘t Huys a platform for the finest that these worlds have to offer. The iconic hotel thus opens its doors to a new target group and shows that De L’Europe embraces art, culture and craftsmanship in the city. The residences of ‘t Huys will be made available on weekends as ‘Signature Suites’ allowing guests to stay there as well.
