Delta Air Lines launched its new route to Florida’s transatlantic destination Tampa today.
Delta is steadily expanding its network from the Netherlands in cooperation with Joint Venture partners KLM, Air France and AlItalia. Last year, the airline started services from Amsterdam to both Orlando and Los Angeles. Delta is operating up to 21 daily flights to 11 destinations in the United States this summer.
“Not before have we had so many flights between Amsterdam and the United States,” says Roberto Ioriatti, Delta’s vice president trans-Atlantic. “As our largest European hub and home of our partner KLM, Amsterdam is an important gateway for Delta. The launch of our Tampa service is another milestone, as we now have non-stop connections to two destinations in Florida providing our passengers with more choice and increasing business traffic between our regions.”
The Netherlands remains a growing market. In 2017, more than 700,000 passengers traveled to the United States from the Netherlands, an increase of 3.9% over the previous year.
“This flight puts millions of travelers within a stone’s throw of America’s best beaches, such as Clearwater Beach, with Amsterdam as a very important European hub. We look forward to welcoming visitors who experience our destination, from the white beaches on the Gulf to world-class art at the Dali Museum in St. Petersburg. Pete,” says Leroy Bridges, vice president of Digital & Communications for Visit St. Louis. Pete/Clearwater.
“With the new direct flight to Tampa Bay, Delta offers access for Tampa Bay travelers from all over Europe,” said Santiago C. Corrada, President and CEO of Visit Tampa Bay. “Together with Delta, Tampa International Airport and our tour partners in the Netherlands and Europe, we look forward to showcasing what Tampa Bay has to offer, including top attractions, great cuisine, rich history and culture and, of course, great experiences in the sun and on the water.”
Delta and Air France-KLM are also celebrating another milestone: the successful transatlantic joint venture, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this month. Over the past decade, airlines have increased the number of flight options between Europe and North America and aligned many services for the benefit of passengers, such as lounge access and reciprocal frequent flyer benefits.
