KLM launches flight status checker

KLM has developed a flight status checker that allows passengers to view live all available flights to and from Amsterdam. KLM chief executive Pieter Elbers reported this in an email to regular travelers on Monday.

Despite the global outbreak of the corona virus, he says, there are still many who must travel – for work, family or personal reasons. ‘You can rest assured that we will be there for you and that we will continue to fly as much as possible to get you safely and quickly to your destination. Currently, we are flying according to a temporarily limited network, offering 25 intercontinental and 32 European destinations. In order to provide security in uncertain times, we have developed a flight status checker. This allows you to check live all available flights to and from Amsterdam.’

In his email, Elbers writes that KLM’s main priority remains to bring stranded travelers abroad safely home. In recent weeks, KLM operated hundreds of repatriation flights, flying more than a quarter of a million Dutch and international travelers home.

‘As a result of the coronavirus outbreak, some of our products and services have been temporarily stopped or reduced. We have taken social distancing measures at Schiphol Airport, our international airports and – where possible – in the seating arrangements on our flights. Our catering service has been temporarily modified to reduce onboard contact. We have decided to keep the Non-Schengen KLM Crown Lounge open with a modified menu and shorter opening hours. At updates.klm.com you will find more updates and information about our preventive measures.’

‘I realize that, under the present circumstances, we cannot serve you as you have come to expect from KLM. However, it is heartwarming to receive so many expressions of support from our customers from all over the world. Our staff is making every effort to provide you with the best service possible under these circumstances, and your words reinforce our resolve. Our blue KLM hearts beat for you, our valued customer.’

Positive change
‘I am convinced that this crisis can bring about a positive change in aviation. I see innovation in the areas of sanitation and hygiene on board, but also in airport screening processes and redefining personal space. We will soon come to regard these developments as the new norm. Together with our customers, authorities, airports and partners, we work hard to create an improved KLM experience. KLM will emerge from this crisis stronger: focused, socially responsible and sustainable.’
