This winter, KLM will fly directly from Amsterdam to 162 destinations: 72 intercontinental and 90 within Europe.
This is evident from the new winter timetable, which runs from October 31 to March 26, 2022.
With the relaxation of travel restrictions, KLM can add more capacity this winter.
KLM has resumed at a single destination after the entire network before the Covid-19 crisis. Compared to the winter of 2019, KLM will be flying this winter on intercontinental flights at approximately 75 percent of the capacity.
USA
Because vaccinated European travelers will be welcome again in the US from 8 November, KLM is expanding capacity at various American destinations.
For example, the number of flights to Atlanta is almost doubled to 12 per week. The service to New York JFK will have 11 weekly flights this winter.
KLM will also fly to Las Vegas and Miami this winter, both 3 times a week. The flights to Minneapolis, which have been restarted in the summer of 2021, will also continue this winter with 3 weekly flights.
KLM is also significantly expanding its capacity to Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao. Read more here .
South America
The KLM network is also showing recovery in South America; the airline flies 4 times a week to San José and Liberia in Costa Rica (this was 2 times last winter).
Panama City is served daily again.
The capacity on the route to Paramaribo will also increase sharply next winter, with 4 weekly flights. Last winter, due to strict travel restrictions, only 1 weekly flight was possible.
KLM’s longest scheduled service, direct from Amsterdam to Santiago de Chile, will continue non-stop this winter with 3 weekly flights.
New
In addition, four completely new destinations are available this winter: Mombasa, Cancún, Port of Spain and Bridgetown.
The first flight to Cancun in Mexico is on November 2. The destination is flown 5 times a week during the Christmas holidays. This brings the total number of weekly KLM flights to Mexico to 12.
The first (combined) flight to Port of Spain in Trinidad & Tobago and Bridgetown in Barbados took place on October 16 and will eventually be operated 3 times a week.
The scheduled service to Mombasa (Kenya) is expected to start at the beginning of December. A process is currently underway with the Kenyan authorities to obtain the necessary permits to fly to Mombasa.
Asia
KLM’s Asian network is still heavily affected by current travel restrictions. As a result, the demand for these flights is still lagging behind other regions. However, the demand for freight transport to and from Asia is still high, which means that KLM can continue to offer a large part of its destinations this winter season.
Europe
Within Europe, KLM is responding to the sharply increased demand for both leisure and business travel. Summer destinations such as Zagreb and Poznan were highly booked, which means that they will be continued in winter as well.
By adding these destinations, the number of European destinations is even higher than in the winter of 2019.
The number of flights per destination in Europe is in many cases still slightly lower than before the corona crisis.
KLM uses 84 percent of the capacity on the European network. Despite this, the main European cities such as Berlin, London, Munich and Paris are again flown at least 5 times a day.
The increase in the number of flights in Europe enables KLM to connect many points within Europe via Amsterdam again; Amsterdam Schiphol’s function as a global hub is thereby strengthened.
‘After more than a year and a half, more and more borders are opening again, which means that the road to recovery continues. KLM is pleased that we can once again offer so many destinations to our customers. We look forward to doing what we do best: bringing people together. Traveling revolves around personal connections, that’s what we all stand for at KLM’, says KLM CEO Pieter Elbers. (Photo Shutterstock).
