RIU is coming to Canada. In 2021, hotel RIU Plaza will open its doors in Toronto. This expansion is part of RIU’s hotel plan to have a hotel presence in major cities around the world.
The Spanish company plans to invest about $100 million in the project, which is now in the final stages of design. Located in the city’s financial district, the hotel will be for dual use. RIU is investing in the part intended for the hotel with 350 rooms, meeting rooms, a gym, a bar and a restaurant. The upper floors of the building are for residential use.
Luis Riu, CEO of RIU Hotels & Resorts, calls the opening of the first hotel in Toronto a big step: ‘We are committed to expanding the RIU Plaza hotel line in the world’s major cities, implementing the RIU brand of the most traditional vacation destinations. We hope this hotel will attract RIU customers around the world to discover the city of Toronto with us. We also hope that loyal Canadian customers will decide to get to know our urban product. This project also represents a new boost to the awareness of our brand within and outside Canada’.
RIU Hotels & Resorts has been associated with Canada for many years, as it is one of the most important markets for hotels in the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America. But only after the opening of this new hotel will RIU also have a physical presence in the country.
