Singapore: tightened rules for visitors

Singapore has tightened its rules for visitors because of the corona crisis. Visitors wishing to stay for a short time will no longer have access to Singapore or be able to travel through Singapore. Singapore residents, permanent residents and longer-term residence permit holders have access, but must quarantine at home for 14 days.

Since Friday, March 27, all travelers arriving in Singapore, including Singapore residents themselves, must submit a health certificate. This can be done through the SG Arrival Card e-service of the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA).

With the measures, Singapore aims to reduce the number of imported destinations with the virus. ‘These are very important steps for a small and open economy like Singapore, as we have always been connected to the world,’ says the Singapore Tourism Board.

In addition, there are complementary measures. Thus, events or mass gatherings have been cancelled. All entertainment venues such as bars, nightclubs, discotheques, cinemas, theaters and karaoke stores must remain closed until April 30, 2020.

Public locations such as malls, museums and attractions may remain open, but must reduce the number of visitors to one person per 16 square feet. Also, no group activities with more than 10 people may take place at these locations.
