Amstel Boathouse, the well-known restaurant and event venue on Amsterdam’s Amstel River, will be hosting a number of Latin & jazz afternoons during the winter months. On Saturday, November 23, singer Yvonne Weijers will be on stage to kick off the first of three fine Latin & jazz afternoons.
Since Amsterdam can use some extra atmosphere during the winter months, Amstel Boathouse owners Pim Pronk and Jeanine Geurts decided to go for music. “We want everyone to feel at home with us,” they explain. “Latin and jazz are types of music that fit very well with the homely atmosphere of Amstel Boathouse and the cozy winter months. With the afternoons, we also want to show a large audience that the surroundings of Amstel Boathouse have a lot to offer even in the winter months. It is beautiful here at this time of year!”
Yvonne Weijers & Menno van Loon
The musical afternoons will be held on Saturday, November 23, Saturday, December 14 and Saturday, February 1 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The first two performances will feature singer Yvonne Weijers and her band, and the last of the series will be completed by Menno van Loon (FMA Jazzband). After the performance, the location is perfect for a nice dinner or a drink.
Weijers is looking forward to the two performances. “With my band I tour theaters, festivals and clubs where I combine the world’s most beautiful Latin and jazz hits with Dutch songs,” she says cheerfully. “Think of hits by Gershwin, Buena Vista Social Club and Van Morrison that I completely revamp together with poet Marten Janse and composer Cajan Witmer. I’m really looking forward to the audience’s reaction.”
Amstel Boathouse is located on the Amsteldijk 223, 1079 LK Amsterdam. Admission to the musical afternoons is free and free parking is available (subject to availability).
