SAS officially joined SkyTeam over the weekend, becoming the 20th active member of the alliance.

The carrier unveiled plans to switch from Star Alliance to SkyTeam in October 2023, when it was also announced that SkyTeam member Air France-KLM would take a stake in the Scandinavian airline.

Since then SAS has completed restructuring proceedings, and exited US Chapter 11 protection and Swedish company reorganisation.

SAS is the first new member of the SkyTeam alliance since Virgin Atlantic joined in March last year.

There are currently 20 active members of the alliance (Russian carrier Aeroflot is suspended due to the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War). Czech Airlines is technically still a member, but will leave on 26 October when it ceases flight operations under its own code.
